CJ Abrams got things started with a double down the left-field line in the top of the first against the Mets. Nathaniel Low followed with a booming homer to left, putting the Nationals ahead 2-0. It felt like a statement swing early on. But the Mets weren't done. Down in the fourth, Juan Soto connected, slicing the lead to 3-2. The back-and-forth was already heating up.
CJ Abrams hit again later, this time a solid opposite-field shot in the top of the fifth to push the score to 4-2. But the Mets kept battling back. Jeff McNeal singled in a run in the seventh to make it 4-3, putting the Nationals on edge. The game stayed tied until the ninth, but the Nationals couldn't find the bottom of the barrel in the top of the ninth. Francisco Lindor answered with a double in the bottom of the ninth, tying it at 4-4 and sending it to extra innings.
Then came the 10th. With two outs and the tying run on deck, McNeal came through again – this time with a walk-off hit, giving the Mets the 5-4 win. It was a heck of a finish at City Field. The Nationals' struggles against the Mets' bullpen, especially late in the game, ultimately cost them. You could feel the frustration in the dugout when they didn't get the run in the ninth. McNeal's walk-off capped off a wild night. It was a game for the ages, a true back-and-forth thriller.
